Cover Release – Promises Kept

This is the cover to a novella I’ve written featuring the gay couple from my Starlight series.  Dylan Donahue and Alec Ransom deserved their own cover and their own story. I know this is rather a radical idea, basing an MM Romance novella on a series of MF books, but this will be able to be read as stand alone. There are references to the previous books, and certainly to Bennett and Cassie, the main characters in the previous books. However, they won’t spoil the reading of Promises Kept and I hope that you’ll get to know Dylan and Alec a little better.

This book will be released on 19 November. Buy links will be posted soon.

Of course, if you want to read the three previous books to get a more detailed flavour of the whole series, then please, feel free.

Cover Release- Forever in Starlight

#coverreveal #Starlight #newrelease #bookslaidbareblog
Some of you may know that I wrote M/F before I branched into M/M. The books were well received but as these were my debut novels, I didn’t enjoy a huge amount of success. I was a newbie and didn’t have the panache back them to understand what I was doing 😊 I like to think I’ve grown a bit since then, so my publisher and I decided that the time had come to release the third book in my Starlight series to finish off Bennett and Cassie’s story. This is a May-December romance, Bennett being ten years younger than Cass, and they meet under tragic circumstances. Bennett is an up and coming actor in London, and there are no prizes for guessing who inspired him 😊 It’s one of my two man crushes…

Cassie is successful business woman, independent and feisty. The stories are pretty action packed and there’s loads of excitement and intrigue, including a rather controversial scene which you can find out more about below on James Landrith’s website.

The Boroughs newsletter showcases the cover and the book too http://www.boroughspublishinggroup.com/…/july-2018-e-newsle…

I think most of my readers are M/M readers, but having said that, I don’t want to assume anything. I know some people love to read both genres and more.

Without further ado, this is the cover for my new release, coming on 30th August, that finally gives readers of the first two books the proper ending to the saga. There will be a book tour planned by Carol Fenton for this story, so watch her blog, https://www.facebook.com/BooksLaidBare/ for announcements of dates if you’d like to take part.

What’s going on in my life…

Typewriter

I’ve been somewhat of a busy bee lately, trying to get my head around the fact it’s already the 1st April 2016 and there’s so much going on. I’m happy, don’t get me wrong..I just need a plan. So now I’m back to focusing on the writing side of my creativity, I’m hoping to move things along and making all those things I’ve had simmering in the back ground a reality.

piZap_1459197487914Damaged Goods (book 7 Men of London) will be released on 28th April, so I’m gearing up for the release blitz, getting the ARC prepared and myriad other bits and pieces so I’m ready.

Jax and Dare will be with us soon and I’m hoping you’ll love their story. It’s a sweet, coming of age, first love tale with some bitter sweet moments.

piZap_1459197591408Hard Climate (book 8 Men of London) – this is finished and back from beta readers. It will be a potential July release. I left this story open for a potential book 9 or perhaps 10 as well…

Meet Ryan (the sexy diva in pink) and Mango -hard nosed eco-warrior. Again, a story with some laughs, some tears and a lot of fun.

20151012_155302_resized2Then I’m writing what I call my ‘circus’ book. I started writing Living on Air a while ago but it’s coming along nicely, seeing that I decided to change what I’d written from third person to first in alternating POV’s of the two MC’s. It flows much better this way and I love writing first person. I’m really getting into this story. Beware- it’s very dark, gritty and emotional and will definitely need trigger and content warnings. Oh and there are clowns too because it’s set in a circus. Sorry coulrophobics…This will not an easy bedtime read. I’m even scaring myself.

I’m also working on a stand alone M/M story based on my original M/F Starlight series. This one is set in the world of film and theatre and is the story of Dylan and Alec, who we meet in Cassandra by Starlight and Together in Starlight. This was always planned as a 3 book series to finish off the tale, but I don’t want to write another M/F story. So Dylan and Alec get their own book , and happy ending. I’ve written it, but it needs some work though to make me happy with it before it goes anywhere else. I expect this to be released sometime towards the end of this year if all goes well.

I’ve started my own business too helping other authors. We may even have our first client.  I’m also working on a bespoke software development with a friend, that I hope will again make an author’s life easier. Soon all will be fully revealed. If you can’t wait, then check out http://www.theravencrestagency.com. I’m not actively marketing this yet but enquiries are welcome.

I’m also working on a project that may or not take off, but it’s an exciting one, and one I hope gets off the ground. If it works out, it will be a lot of fun. I don’t want to say too much on this yet because there are still things to be ironed out. Sorry to keep you hanging-not …

So all in all I think I’ll be kept busy for a while. Keep me filled with coffee, muffins and good music -Adam Lambert, Troye Sivan, The Killers, Sneaker Pimps and Imagine Dragons- and I’ll be alright. Inspired even….

Devoted fan or crazy stalker?

Devoted Fan or Crazy stalker- Where does ‘celebrity’ end and ‘privacy’ begin?
In my book, Cassandra by Starlight, the hero, Bennett Saville, finds himself eerily stalked by someone as he travels around the world in his profession as an actor. He encounters them at the theatre he owns, outside the film studios he works in, in the garage basement where he parks his car, in his hotel room in Paris when he’s there for an Awards ceremony, and when he’s with Cassie in Venice. The result of this is a very violent and intrusive sexual abuse event that leaves him vulnerable and traumatised. The man is forcibly restrained and raped by a woman.
(I’m not getting into this old chestnut here though, that’s not what this blog post is about. If you want to see my views on this, check out the Rape Posts on my other blog at http://www.susanmacnicol.com)
As a celebrity you are used to a certain amount of public adoration, curiosity and downright nosiness. It’s the price one pays for being in the public eye. But lately, things appear to have been spiralling out of control with people thinking they have a right to ‘own’ celebrities and broadcast anything they do to all and sundry.
Take this case below for example. Actor Benedict Cumberbatch was ‘cyber stalked’ a while ago with a close neighbour tweeting about everything he was doing in the comfort of his own home.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/9925578/Sherlock-star-Benedict-Cumberbatch-is-cyberstalked.html
Now as a Cumberbatch fan girl myself, I can understand the interest in the man; but this is just downright creepy and dangerous. The man is in his home, for God’s sake. He has every right to expect privacy. God forbid he was doing something he shouldn’t, like having a Roman orgy. While I’m sure there are plenty of fans who’d like to be a fly on the wall for that one, even participate in it, that’s not really how things work. What someone does in their own home is entirely their business and shouldn’t be subject to public consumption.
There are even apps you can get like Gawker Stalker that track celebrities movements on a map. I’m not promoting the use of these in any way, but they are out there and if you are a serious fan or stalker, you’d know more about them already than I do.

There’s one called Starspotter that ‘is perfectly designed to find your much loved celebrities, events and gossip in real-time, closer to your location or anywhere you travel in the world. StarSpotter captures your favorite celebrities, politicians, musicians, athletes and models on the go in your pocket

A property website in New York , Rentenna, has a new ‘feature’ for their site – “Find Your Celebrity Neighbor.” You register/login, type in your address, and a list of nearby celebs pops up, with links to their Wikipedia bios.
Here in the UK we even have our first-ever National Stalking Clinic, based at Chase Farm Hospital in Enfield, north London. It rehabilitates stalkers and tries to get them out of the mindset they find themselves in by fixating on another person and causing ruin not only to their own lives as a stalker, but to the ‘stalkee’ as well.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/society/2013/feb/17/how-to-rehabilitate-a-stalker
And new legislation has even had to be passed to manage this ever growing threat. As of 25th November 2012 amendments to the Protection from Harassment Act have been made that makes stalking a specific offence in England and Wales for the first time.
http://www.stalkinghelpline.org/faq/about-the-law/
With all of this going on, how are celebrities supposed to protect themselves against the ever present threat of not only a physical stalker, but a cyber-stalker? I can assure you cyber-stalking is an easy pit to fall into. I see it every day when I’m online. I see tweets and information passing cyber hands and I sometimes wonder, “Has this one maybe crossed the line or am I just being too bloody hardnosed? Give the man/woman a break and leave them alone, just for a moment.”
Most fandoms and fan bases are very protective of their chosen celebrities. They would never step over the line and infringe on the person’s privacy. They tend to get extremely upset with people when they do, as is the case with the Cumberbatch fandom. They cut people off if they feel uncomfortable; send them to ‘virtual’ Coventry. But there are still unscrupulous people out there who don’t see what they do as an invasion of privacy but more of a right.
I suppose there are two schools of thought –
He/She is a celebrity. They chose to be famous so they should just shut up and live with it. If they don’t like it, they shouldn’t have got famous in the first place. They whinge when we don’t talk about them, they whinge when we do. What the hell do they want? They are a public figure – they have no rights to privacy and if it means I sit in a tree overlooking their front yard and snap pictures, or spy on them through the window, that’s fine. If I want to tell the world where they are, what they’re doing, who they’re with, how many times they picked their nose and where they’re going next – let me.
He/She is a celebrity. They worked hard to be famous (most anyway, some are just undeservedly catapulted into it by the advent of cheesy reality TV shows but that’s another blog post and I expect a lot of hate mail when I put that one up) and they expect a certain amount of public acknowledgement and recognition. But they are also private human beings and deserve their privacy when in a private environment, a place where they have a reasonable expectation of privacy like with a partner or family member in a quiet restaurant, or in the gym, or quietly watching a film in a cinema.
The question is – which one are you?
