2018- My Year Ahead

2017 was an amazing year in some respects, and awful in others, both from a personal standpoint and a world view. I’m not one to dwell on what’s been before, because I believe it’s self-defeating. Instead, I focus on the future and live day to day, because, honestly, that’s all any of us can do.

To my amazing publisher, Boroughs, the readers of my books, the bloggers that helped me throughout the year, the organisers of the events I attended, my fellow authors who consoled and supported me, my family who kept me sane, and everyone in my life who touched it, however briefly – thank you. I treasure each and every one of you and I hope your 2018 is as good as mine is going to be. If I can do anything to help in that regard, all you must do is ask and I’ll be there.

#Project1 and some news

Living on Air release. I anticipate this being out late February, but I’ll confirm dates when I can. Chris Talbot, how’s that cover shot doing? ♥ Cary and Rhys are waiting….

I’m hoping to produce seven new books in the next eighteen months. I have contracts for them all already, so I guess I’d better keep moving and get those fingers tapping on a keyboard.

There could be some good news too about other things in the works, but I’ve been asked by my publisher to keep mum on it until something pans out. Sorry to be so sketchy but I’d hate to say too much. It involves book fairs…

I’m planning a visit to the Facebook office in London to present the LGBTQ petition once I’ve finalised everything and anyone that wants to come with me is more than welcome. We can make a day out of it, ending with coffee, drinks and talk about books and life in general.  https://www.change.org/p/susan-mac-nicol-equal-facebook-standards-applied-to-lgbtqi-community/

#Project2

I’m co-writing with Author M Tasia from Boroughs Group Publishing. She’s the author of the wonderful Boys of Brighton series.  Our story is set in Toronto, Canada and promises intrigue, shmexy times, humour and a constant war of words between two very head strong and stubborn men. I’m not sure yet when the planned release date for this will be. Head over to her page, give it a like and you’ll have double the chance of spotting the updates ?

https://www.facebook.com/mtasiabooks/

#Project3

Nicholas and I will have concluded the ‘final- final’ edits (lol, we all know this old story, there’s always bloody edits to be done) to the screenplay for Sight Unseen and we’ll start looking for competitions and festivals to submit it to. We’re hoping this will be in February 2018 too.

#Project4-7

This is the big one. This will be the spin off series from Feat of Clay, book 4 in the Men of London series featuring Clay Mortimer, former SAS soldier, and Tate Williams, ex drug squad policeman. These four books in the new series will focus on something rather different from what I’ve written before (I’m not spilling the beans yet) and will focus on the investigative agency they both work in. You can expect murder, mayhem, blackmail, and some rather disturbing characters…not to mention some eye widening situations and unusual plot lines. This series will be a whole lot of fun and both men are about to be catapulted into a world they knew existed, but didn’t expect to meet so up close and personal.

#Project8

I’m planning on bringing Louis’s story to life at the end of 2018, in a Christmas seasonal special which will make a tenth (a shorter novella) Men of London book. You may remember Louis from Survival Game- the gambler who lost it all and managed to bring himself up from the gutter. We’ll learn more about him and his new love interest – no less than rock star Callum Webster whom we met in Hard Climate, Ryan’s man crush. There will have been some time elapsing between the books to allow Callum a little time to mature but I’m hoping it will work out between them.

All in all, it’s going to be a very busy time and I hope you journey with me, and enjoy the time we have together. All the best for the year ahead. The times, they are a-changing……

7TH SEPTEMBER FOR MEN OF LONDON #9

Only two more days to go until Survival Game is officially released. So, what can you expect in this book? Well, Laverne and Brook re-appear, with a cameo appearance by Lesley Scott. He doesn’t have a big role, but he’s still around, looking dapper. Of course, Ryan and Mango feature quite a bit, with an interrupted blowjob scene that I hope will make you LOL. There’s the usual bitch slapping among the drag queens, and poor Kyle nearly loses it with one of them.

You’ll learn more about both Kyle and Eric’s past in this story, and Kyle’s does involve cruel spousal abuse. Eric is still suffering the loss of his partner a few years ago, something which torments him to this day. The story contains suicide and murder as well, so fair warning. After all, this is a story involving a paramedic and I’ve kept it true to life and spared the honey coating. This story is supposed to reflect what these paramedics go through every single day without it being soft soaped.

Silver Dagger Book Tours are doing a blog tour Sept 8th to Oct 8th too, and I think there may still be time to sign up if you fancy

Survival Game – Men of London #9

The latest book in my Men of London series will be available on September 7th. This story took a while, I struggled getting it to all gel together. I hope I did it justice.

If you read Hard Climate, you’ll remember Kyle Tripper, Ryan’s feisty manager at Club Delish, and Eric Kirby, the paramedic who came to the club one tonight to assist a man having a heart attack- and even went on a date with Ryan once.  Kyle and Eric were quite taken with each other even then and in this book, they get to know each other a little better…

What’s it all about, you ask?

Since his true love died, paramedic Eric Kirby has been living a half life, but when he meets purple-haired Kyle Tripper, Eric’s heart is jolted into a whole new rhythm.

HANDLE…

Kyle Tripper has led an interesting life. Currently the manager of London’s famous Club Delish, he used to be a croupier extraordinaire in Las Vegas. But not everything in that life was so glamorous; his ex was a piece of work. Now gun-shy, Kyle hopes there is someone special out there for him, and secretly wishes it’s luscious paramedic, Eric Kirby.

WITH CARE

Every day Eric Kirby goes through the motions. Yeah, he saves lives, and, sure, he makes a difference, but he doesn’t feel it anymore – not since he lost his one true. But, when he meets wild, flamboyant Kyle Tripper and learns there’s a skittish, apprehensive man beneath the bold façade, the best of Eric’s protective nature kicks in, and opens his heart to a new love.

Here’s another teaser just to whet your appetite.

Unlikely in Love – Release Date 28 June

I have a little bunch of stories to release on the 28th June. I’ll let you figure out what they’re like from the little snippets below. Oh, and this is the cover. Sweet, a little naughty and I think it fits the contents perfectly.

Meet Elliot and Dan in ‘Benchpressed’

City planner Elliot meets personal trainer Dan and between them, they whip the gym into shape…

“I happen to think you have a very nice belly,” Dan murmured. “It makes a change from the usual devotion to keeping a six pack.” His tone went dreamy. “I like a man with a bit of meat on him.”

Oh, fuck me. That sounded a bit awkward, even to me. My body flushed with heat and I cleared my throat.

Meet Davey and Gus in ‘Dear Davey’

Agony Aunt columnist Davey has an unfortunate habit of causing mayhem for fellow worker Gus.  He also has no filter. Remind you of someone?

“Oh, and I’m sorry I set fire to your waste bin yesterday,” I muttered.

“Who else would it have been?” he said. “Do I need to take out company hazard pay when I go out with you?”

I huffed, flicking my hair back from my forehead. “Puhleaze. It’d be worth every penny, I promise.”

Behind me, Gus’s cologne invaded my nostrils and I closed my eyes, inhaling his scent.

Meet Cooper and Robbie in ‘Banana Appeal’

An errant gecko brings Graphic artist Cooper meets neighbour Robbie together.  There may also be a banana involved.

I took a step forward, brandishing the banana toward him as if entreating him to eat it. Robbie took a step back, a wary look crossing his face. I wondered whether he’d expected me to ask him to fellate it. Because that would have been a complete waste when my dick was willing to be wrapped between those full lips. The banana didn’t stand a fucking chance if I got in there first.

Swagging along, singin’ a song…

This is something authors both love and hate. Love because it gives us an opportunity to be creative. Like a narcissus flower on the river, watching its own reflection, we gaze at our images and sigh in happiness as we emblazon our brand on various pieces of promotional gifts designed for giveaways or Author meets.

We hate it because yes, of course it costs us money, even though well spent, and also —bigger issue—what the hell do you do that’s different from what everyone else is doing? I’ve done tee-shirts, mugs, pens, postcards, all the usual, and I’d love to find something a little different. I did do the whole Tenga Egg thing, that’s true, but at almost £10 an egg, it’s not something I can envisage me doing again soon. It’s damn expensive. My own branded condoms were fun but again, not cheap. Book charms on necklaces worked well, and aren’t too expensive if you get them from Etsy. I also bought two Kindle Fires when they were very well priced. One is in my cupboard, and I’m not too sure what to do with it, the other has been promised as a Grand Prize to the wonderful shiMMer event coming up in July.

(Talking about shiMMer, if you haven’t pre-ordered my books yet for signing, DO IT NOW!! There’s a great prize up for grabs for one of the people who do, a positively pleasurable cornucopia of treasures. This will be drawn after the pre-order window closes on May 24th).

I think I still have a signed Alfredo Roagui 2016 calendar somewhere as well. That was ordered from him via Etsy and took a long time coming from Mexico. I could see the dust settling on the gulch, as I thirsted away, waiting for them to arrive…and some Men of London magnets. I bought the wrong size, and they ended up being big enough to fit as an advertising billboard on the side of your car door.

I did however come across a fabulous site doing a great range of promotional flash drives. To me, this is an item that always comes in handy in today’s digital world. I purchased these from them and I’m thrilled at the way they came out. They aren’t the traditional USB; they’re much more compact and easy to pop in a wallet. These little beauties will be coming with me to shiMMer as well.

I still have more swag to order, and I’ll be visiting ye olde faithful Vistaprint or Etsy for some economical ideas. I’m thinking pens, notepads, smaller fridge magnets this time, and mousepads.

What’s your favourite form of swag, as an author or a reader/blogger? And if you have any great suggestions for anything you might have done and where to get it, please feel free to leave it right here….

Have you met Laverne?

Some of you may know Laverne Debussy-Smith, fashion designer extraordinaire. I had the pleasure of meeting up with her recently for a short interview. She was on her way to Frankfurt for a fashion show.

ctb-pic-1

Me: Thank you for meeting with me Laverne. I love your shoes!

Laverne nods head regally, but she has a wicked sparkle in her eye.

“Thank you, chicken. I’m rather partial to them myself. They’ve been used in some interesting…positions.”

Laverne winks at me and I feel myself flush.

Wonderful, let’s get started on the questions then.

collage-6

Me: As a businesswoman could you ever see yourself taking over Alan Sugar’s role on The Apprentice?

Laverne: Oh, my God, no. That man is one nasty piece of work and I have no intention of aspiring to be such an a-hole. However, give me a bevy of naked men parading around trying to sell me their new business ideas on fashion and I might consider having my own show. ‘Laverne Does Britain’, how’s that for a title?

Have you and Brook had any more moments like that backstage at Club Delish?

Laverne fans herself but that naughty twinkle in her eyes is still there.

“How on earth did you hear about that -were there hidden cameras in that damn room? I wouldn’t put it past that cheeky Ryan to have those to record his own dalliances in there with the delicious Mango. I’d pay to see those snippets…but darling, don’t you know a lady never kisses and tells?”

She blows a kiss at me, like Marilyn Munro. I feel oddly privileged to have been treated to one of them.lenny_laverne

Me: Have you met Brook’s parents yet?

Oh God, yes. It was the most nerve wracking experience of my life. I was throwing up for two days before we went there. I shouldn’t have worried. Dianne and Harry were absolutely charming and I can see where Brook gets his poise and good looks from. I made a bit of a fool myself over the snacks but then I’m used to ribs in a bucket, not that fancy cuisine they like to serve.

What is the best piece of advice Leslie has ever given to you?

“Ahh, my favourite little chicken. “ Laverne sighs fondly. “He told me to get my head out of my arse and consider following the path of true love.” Laverne grins. “That wasn’t quite how it turned out, from my side anyway, but it all worked out for the best. Of course, that meeting in my office added five years onto my life, it was one of the most surreal experiences ever. And I’ve had a few of those.”

Do you have any New Year’s resolutions for 2017?

Laverne rolls her eyes. “Sweetheart, no one sticks to those bloody things. The minute the first week of January is over, if not sooner, everyone goes back to their old tricks and all good intentions are forgotten” She smirks. “And I’m not one for good intentions. I prefer the bad kind.”

I want to curtsy as she stands up to leave to catch her plane. I close off the interview with a handshake and a sniff of Laverne’s entrancing perfume

Well, as always, it’s been a pleasure. Thanks so much for coming down and answering my questions. And do pass my regards onto Leslie and Oliver. Tell them I’ll be in touch soon.

Sight Unseen Book Signing -California

anders_banner

I’m very excited! I’m going to the States in 2017, from 22nd to 30th March. It’s a dream come true for me and I’m still in shock. I’m honoured to be signing Sight Unseen (and other books of course) with Boroughs Publishing Group and actor Nicholas Downs at this conference in Brea, California from 25-26th March. If you’re interested in attending this signing, either as an author or a reader, here’s the link. We’d love to see you all there!

https://caldreaminwriters.com/

There will also be a very special signing event at The Abbey, an iconic gay club in West Hollywood, in the beautiful Cabana Bar. Nicholas and I will be there to enjoy the evening, meet fans of both our genres in film and publishing and be available to sign books, chat and have some fun. If you’re in the area, please come down and see us, we’d love to meet you. It will be a fabulous event, and The Abbey is being a most gracious host.

You’ll see more about this in weeks to come, as we have a full promotional event planned. Any bloggers wishing to take part and spread the word for us – we’d welcome your participation in telling everyone. Let me know and we can give you material to share.

To coin a phrase from the UK Meet – is it March yet?
